Martinsburg Journal – July 19, 2007 - Wednesday marked a milestone for both the Berkeley County Development Authority and the 167th Federal Credit Union.  Officials broke ground on the credit union’s branch site at Tabler Station Business Park. The facility is expected to be ready to open this fall. Once completed, it will provide full service to the more than 8,300 people who use the agency’s existing site.

Martinsburg Journal – July 14, 2007An $18.5 million contract was issued this week for the second phase of runway construction at the 167th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard.  The contract will cover paving of an 800-foot extension on the runway’s western end, as well as structural upgrades to an additional 3,500 feet of existing runway, said Lt. Col. Bill Burkhart.   [Senator Robert] Byrd touted the upgrades and the benefits they will have for the base, as it continues to make way for its new fleet of C-5 Galaxy cargo planes.

Martinsburg Journal - July 3, 2007 - Construction could soon be under way on the first building in Tabler Station Business Park.  The [Berkeley County] Development Authority purchased the 326-acre business park in 2004.  Three agencies have since placed contracts on land inside the park, with one agency, the 167th Federal Credit Union, now set to proceed with construction.  The Berkeley County Commission placed a contract on land in the park last year, and announced that it planned to build a new emergency services center there to capitalize on the park’s close proximity to Interstate 81.  Building supply retailer 84 Lumber has also announced construction plans in the business park.

State Journal – June 29, 2007 - Expansion Management Magazine and the National Policy Research Council recently sang the praises of West Virginia as a good place to do business.  [Their] extensive study of how different states recruit and attract new businesses … ranked West Virginia eighth out of 50. 

Spirit of Jefferson Farmer’s Advocate - June 21, 2007 - U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, Shepherd University President David Dunlop, faculty and students gathered for the dedication of the new nursing building on campus.  Senator Byrd obtained $10 million in federal funding for the state-of-the-art nursing teaching facility.  The 37,000 square-foot facility includes specialized nursing classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, student study centers, and general class room space.

State Journal [part of Gov. Manchin’s “Open for Business” report] – June 1, 2007 - Quad/Graphics is now the exclusive printer and distributor for the L.L. Bean catalogs.  The Martinsburg plant will share production with the plants in Oklahoma City and Lomira, WI.  L.L. Bean is a major retailer of outdoor gear and clothing.  The multi-million dollar deal goes into effect January 2008.  ‘We were impressed with their innovation, technology and quality,’ said Steve Fuller, L.L. Bean senior vice president of corporate marketing.

Senator Byrd’s website – May 1, 2007 - U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., announced that contracts for the new rescue station and base supply building at the Martinsburg airport have been signed, sealed, and delivered.   Byrd worked to obtain the $12.6 million for the construction of the two key components in the upgrades at the airport and the adjoining Air National Guard base for the fleet of ten C-5 aircraft. The funds are part of more than $192 million that the Senator has secured for the Martinsburg facility. Overall, Martinsburg will see a federal investment of more than $260 million in the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport.   Once the C-5 unit is fully operational, the 167th Airlift Wing anticipates an additional 320 full-time jobs, and the annual economic impact on the area is expected to be more than $50 million annually.
